RIP 19 y/o NGNN employee
RIP. It was snowing last night, so the water was probably cold as fuck. Maybe he only resurfaced for a couple of seconds and couldnt tread water because of the shock from the extremely cold water? Anyway, my condolences go out to his family.
And about the second body - it dosen't surprise me. If they look longer, I'm willing to put money on it that they will find a couple more.

Yea, that staging stuff is pretty high up. I'm sure hitting the water unexpectedly is quite the blow too. Ever since i started working there in June, and first saw one of the carriers, I was always skeptical of the "fencing" they have around it all. Today, they had the orange plastic fencing like you see at ski/snowboarding events on the sidelines around all the staging stuff.
But yea, the group I'm in had just gotten to the boat soon after everything had happened and there was firetrucks/ambulances/cop cars and flashing lights everywhere. 2 navy sailors from the Bush jumped off once they saw the body emerge in the water, but the distance between the two boats isn't all that close.
As far as those harnesses.... I don't want to assume, but if he even did have it on, he must have not connected it right. Those things are super beast and have the strength to hold up like 2500 pounds or something around that if i recall correctly.
but yea, that shit sucks. and as far as him swimming. he was outside, and it was cold/raining yesterday too. So he had to have had steel toe boots on, and probably a decent amount of clothing so i think swimming would be just about impossible especially with the coldness of the water if he didn't get knocked out from hitting the water

We had to tag out most of our systems that deal with overboard because of the divers in the water. We tag out any system that could possibly take suction from or discharge to the surrounding water so that we don't blast divers with radioactive stuff, steam stuff, or suck them into a water intake.
There was RUMORS that the guy got sucked down into an intake we use for pulling in seawater and that maybe he was plastered to some grating near the bottom of the ship, but I'm pretty sure that was BS. The possibility still does exist though that he was pulled in and stuck until we secured that kind of stuff. That was another possible reason for him not resurfacing but I don't want to get into that, especially since the 2 guys I talked about jumpin in from the barge the Bush uses didn't get pulled under... so it doesn't seem all that plausible.
