Red-light cameras returning to VB
I dont care about the cameras, just change the fucking lights so they dont turn red because a car is coming towards them, when there are NO cars looking to go across them the other direction.
Thats the most annoying shit in the world, and the reason I run lights, is they have them set up to where the only turn red when a car approaches the light, even though there is no cross traffic to necessitate it turning red.

its not even the "invasion of privacy" aspect of it that makes the lights bad
it makes people feel like they cant run a yellow light and they will try and slam on the brakes when they are about 15 feet from the intersection.
i cant tell you how many times ive been behind people that do this. seen a few accidents this way to.
the lights will make people even more likely to just slam on the brakes when the logical thing to do it just keep on going

Or has an equipment failure.
At any rate, that's like saying an SUV that rolls when it's tires are low on pressure and the tread separates is not a problem unless someone doesn't check his tire pressures. It's nice to say, but the reality is most people aren't doing things properly, and the people in charge (be it in government or Ford) know this, and are supposed to account for it.

they are, getting rear ended is much better than getting t-boned. Maybe if people know the cameras are there and are going to be slamming on their brakes, maybe they will also know people are going to be slamming on the brakes and not follow so close.
Instead of positing maybes, how about we look at the numerous studies done in a variety of countries over a variety of time periods that have ALL concluded that traffic safety decreases following red light cameras? You'll note that the virginia study looked at injuries, not just accidents, and found an increase in injury crashes as well (and yes, they considered all crashes at an intersection, i.e. not just looking at rear-end collisions that result in injuries).
ive made that mistake before and almost paid the price for it
what's the fine for running a red light and getting cause by the lights?
BTW, keep in mind that they'll fine if your front tires cross the white line, even though you did come to a complete stop, something no cop would ever do. Or let's say the guy behind you was too close and you didn't want to get rear ended, a cop would see that and perhaps understand. A camera wouldn't. At the very least if pulled over you could possibly obtain witnesses, or at least have a fresh enough recollection to argue your justification in court. Camera tickets on the other hand do not notify you quickly enough to do this.
And again, I still don't like how they've flipped parts of the burden of proof.

Don't know if it's different for camera tickets, but it's normally $100 + $62 administrative/court fee (depending on if you pre-pay or contest).
