As far as the best exhaust, the biggest most straight-through shit is what you want.

I'm pretty sure quite a few of the WRX guys on here had HKS downpipes. They are a great part for fairly cheap imo. As for the up-pipe: get something that deletes the cat and is straight through (most, if not all, fit into this category). As for the cat-back: you're going to have to hear some before you decide on one. I like Gabe's Turbo XS (sound-wise), but have no clue what kind of performance gains can be expected when compared to other exhuast systems.

As for the catbacks, they pretty much all sound ok. You cant really make a bad choice. But me personally, im switching to a quiter one b/c ive been pulled over for exhaust too many times.
I also have the HKS downpipe, but that is b/c i eliminated the need for a bellmouth downpipe.
and Gabe, just curious, what was your mph when u ran the 13.4?
i would say a utec should def be high on your list if you plan on staging your upgrades, but even before that you could get more power from a nice cat back, down pipe, uppipe, intake...on the cat back, it depends on what look you want to, its hard to make a rex sound bad, you can go with the HKS look, or like a twin tip almost stock look, for the DP, an HKS is nice, not the best, thats what im running, you can go divorced, or bell mouth though....and with an intake think into the future, get one that will work with a front mount, if you decide to go that far...thats my input

Greygti pretty much nailed it on the head though.

the main reason why i want one is i'm always got a lot on the mind and i can see myself being trashed or pre-occupied and cutting the damn thing off too soon....turbo timer isn't a ness. i understand that it's just the peace of mind to not have to worry about it....sorry it took a min to reply but as i said i hardly post...and was out of town a lot so i was unable to get on-line.
but thanks for all the help fellas....let me know if there are any meets coming up so i can meet some of the local wrx's

p.s. are there any blow-off valves that should be considered or are they pretty much universal with different types of sounds???
