Not sure if anybody already posted this, but if someone works at a honda dealership then they dont need to show proof of the ownership, they can just make it and steal it. That would explain why only hondas are getting stolen.

Ok here is how the key cut to VIN works: since almost all dealers of a specific brand are linked, you can get a key cut at any dealer for your brand of car. And to set "SI"ngle Cam straight, year really doesn't matter. The key pattern is nothing more than a set of numbers. B/c of this, the pattern is saved along with the VIN so that it can be referenced at a later time. So as long as the car has a VIN# and the orginal tumbler, you can have a key cut regardless of the year. There was a person that a key cut to an 8? vehicle, to steal the engine management out of the car, by VIN.

WHat Focal X said is correct.

I have friends who work at a Ford Dealership, and if they wanted to, they could fairly easily have a key made to fit your car, or any car they wanted(that's a ford).
While most people won't do this, im sure a couple people would, and have.

I never said that dealerships didn't give it out. I said that under no circumstances are they supposed to give it out. And your instance just goers to show how information that shouldn't be common knowledge is made common knowledge by irresponsible people.

Well if there's any truth to that theory, as well as the thieves browsing Dragva. The "free car faxes" threads...They should pm the ppl the vins and not post it, unless you think that thread maker is the vin seller Hope they all get caught soon...the car boosters/chop shops.
