Discount Auto Sound - Lynnhaven = Horrible customer service
never had a problem with them.
untill a guy came outside to give me a quote on something on my car and told me he would do it cheaper on the side. he quoted me 1500 for the job at the shop and said he'd do it for 700.
so i talked to someone else the next day there and they quoted me 400 for the shop to do it.
every retail place has at least one or two dicks working there.
they DO awesome work and have some pretty respectable vehicles.

No offense, $2k is nothing in the "car audio" business. Are you sure you didn't approach him with this attitude? (ie. "I spent over $2,000 here you owe me")
Also, any -smart- business owner/manager should not allow a customer to see their car while it's in the middle of being worked on for exactly the reason which was already mentioned (it's unsettling to most customers regardless if they show it and/or say it) Plus, if it is being worked on, no installer likes a customer over their shoulder, regardless of how "innocent" the customer believes they are. Then there is the insurance issue, do you know its not unheard of for a business to spend $2,000 - $4,000 per MONTH for insurance (worker, shop, product and customer)?
A receipt is a proof of purchase just about anywhere you go, so it should come to no surprise that they will not replace it without a receipt. The fact that he called another store without asking for a receipt is perhaps his bad, but, it sounds as though he tried. I'd also be curious what happened to this battery, typically batteries don't just go bad as they are computer controlled load tested before they even leave the manufacturer.
I retract my "no offense" statement, because, seriously, sounds like some information is missing and that you're one of those customers that are never satisfied until a business losses money. I could be wrong, it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

he didn't try anything. he just called the other store to see if they sold these batteries. But the receipt part is not the main problem, how is he going to tell my friend to drive all the way to newport news to replace the battery when it's the same damn store.
I can relate on some of the other stuff you have mentioned. however, As a Business owner I would hope this is not a employee/owner/manager from that store saying this statement. In mine and any other business, revenue is revenue. You work for your customers, regardless if they spend 2k or 20k they are still to be treated with respect and given equal customer service. Thats not to say you cant give the guy that blows 50k in your store a little more, but 2k should be none less than average. They can goto any other store and spend that $2k, they are not privledged to be in your store. you as an owner are privledged to do business with them.
I was not defending DAS, or "Shawn/Sean" for that matter. Rather, the entire story is not known, I took an objective approach based upon what I read.
As for business practices, your input is respected. I've had my fair share of owning a business which was later acquired.
I've worked at a couple stereo shops and we rarely allowed customers in the back to see their car when it was torn apart. I know it may be hard for you to understand (if you've never worked at a shop) but customers freak out when they see their car in the middle of an opporation.
For the record, I've also spent thousands on equipment with DAS and they won't take won't replace my stuff either without a receipt.

Your comment, sir, is the exact reason shops don't allow customers watch. I refuse to work on someones car with them watching.
"What's that?"
"Should it sound like that?"
"Did that pop sound normal?"
"My friend said you should do it (this) way"
"I heard that from a guy on the Internet...."
Also, consider this...there are MANY priveledges that come along with buying parts from shops and getting to know the people that work there. Often (far too often) shop managers/dyno operators/audio techs. get bashed on in Forums (just like the thread we are in now) because some cocky no-it-all acts like an ass, and is treated as such.
Attitude goes a long way. I've personally never had a problem OPERATING my own car on a dyno...3 Dyno's in Hampton Roads to be exact. I take the time to meet the guys/owners, show them that I'm a responsible adult who knows a little about what he's talking about, and that's that. In the business world its called "Equal Business Stature".

i see where youre coming from, but as a manager myself, i can kinda see where he is coming from too.
Of course, its never good business to be rude to customers. But as stated before, a receipt is a receipt.. i cant accept any returns/warranty without one. Its store policy, and its plastered all over the counter, and on the receipt itself. Yeah ive got into a million arguments because of this as well, but theres nothing i can do.
here at BP there is a location in newport news (im in chesapeake), but they are actually our competitors (since this is a franchise) - it probably wasnt the case with DAS, since he did state the computers are down. Although it sounds like he could've made more effort to exchange the battery by making arrangements with the NN store.

I'm the one that this story is about and you guys are right its not about how much you spend! I just wanted to be treated with respect! I walked into DAS and asked him to look at my battery I had it checked by bmw and they said its defective. The guy told me he wouldn't even look at it because I got it from another store. I asked him if he could call the other Newport News store to see if the had the battery in stock so If I do go over there its not a waist of a trip. He then tells me that it doesn't matter I have to go there no matter what even thou they don't have it in stock because the stores are totally different and If i got my battery there then he cant help me. Then he closes the door and avoids me even though I was being repectful and totally calm. I then call the Newport News store and they tell me thats not how it works and he would look at it for me.I ask for him to come out again and he never come back out. About 20 minutes later another guy comes and looks at the battery after dealing the managers attitude he finally agrees that he will switch the battery due to store policy but since I didn't have my receipt I would pay the 20 dollars for them to look it up. Then I find out that I have to wait 2 weeks for them to find it even thou I have a copy from my credit card company. I don't think i would be upset if I was just treated right from the start.
I had troubles with what they did in my truck. the wiring was showing and they told me that I had tampered with it. and didnt want to do ANYTHING about it. the rear speakers didnt even work. There was a guy in line behind that was buying a whole setup. deck, amp, subs, components. I turned and looked at him and said see this is what you get for customer service. he laughed and said yea and left the place. the manager kicked me out. so i called the district manager and got my prob taken care of...o yea i got kicked outta that store by the manager

Much better than a typical "Here's the keys, call me when you're done,"
But W/E. I don't work on other peoples' cars for a living for a reason.
Oh, and I don't know anything about cars.
