I am in Auto Tech class at New horizons in Hampton. And they guy that said, its easy to fix the problem, its trouble shooting and finding the problem. Well he is 100% right. Also, If you attend auto tech, dealerships hire you right out of the class. New Horizons Auto Tech is also All hand on. The teacher only talks for about 15-30 mins teaching you and telling you and assigning you your work. Then the rest of the class is all Hands on working in the shop. I highly suggest going to New Horizons auto tech programe. Its alot of fun and you learn alot of things. you also get out of school earlier!

P.S- you have to be 17 to work at jiffy lube.

It depends on what you will be doing. If you do something that doesn't involve driving cars, then it might be different. Like if you worked in express lube and didn't move cars. Voco probably has something to do with it too.

When'd you graduate? I know that for a period of time after I graduated ('03) the school really took a dive. Aside from teaching basic auto tech stuff that I already knew, the courses taught me a lot about alternative fuels, performance building/tuning, and really diagnosing problems on vehicles. ex.Right after school I was an alignment technician at Merchants for almost two years. Without learning EVERYTHING about suspension on cars (not just replacing parts) that probably wouldn't have been a very easy job. Anyone can be a parts changer. In fact, some people take great pride in changing a lot of tricky parts, doing swaps, etc. Then when the engine light comes on and there's a misfire those same people stand there scratching their head like "Duhhhhh, I tightened it." ATI at least got me in the door as a technician and not just some "lube guy".

If your lookin for experiance on working on cars, then take come classes, there nothing better.
I wouldnt call it good money at all.. unless you are living with your parents still. That is NO MONEY! My nephew was doing it.. he was taking home like less than 800 a month after taxes. He had to detail car interior, wash cars, polish rims, move cars, gas them up. He said it was slack work ... but you pretty much get paid nothing. I mean.. $15,000 gross and less than $12,000 net a year is not good money. That is if you get 40 hours a week. Personally, if I were you. Go be a dishwasher or cook at like Red Lobster, Smokey Bones or something like that. and take a vo-tech class. You will get alot more money that way and be able to tinker with your own car. Then when you have some knowledge under your belt. Go to a shop and get some real money. If you try starting at the bottom and moving up. It will probably be a long time before you start making decent money. Any way you pick is going to be your decision.

I have the sudden urge to call hall and get your fired People like you are why people like me dont' trust dealers.

For the record I was a lot porter when I was 16 and 17 too... we didn't ever abuse new cars or customer cars... we did hurt the rental car fleet of escorts some though.

IF I ever caught you doing that to my car, getting fired would be the least of your worries

I believe you need some type of permission from the state to work at that age.
