I haven't had any major problems out of my car. I've owned for over 3 years and I have put 50k miles on it. Minus third gear shift rail breaking on me, but for 50k of mods and prolly 15-20k of that I've been over 300whp, I'd say thats pretty good. I don't understand why people have such bad luck w/ dsm's, (not including crankwalk). My thinking is that when you mod a car, I expect things are going to break, especially when your launching at 6k+.

I think it depends on how well the car was taken care of obviously.. and most people seem to beat the shit out of DSM's, or just don't keep up with maintenance, which is obviously a big part on a turbo car..

I think some late 94 1g's and all 2g's are prone to crankwalk right?

Front bumpers, especially 95-96 body style ones are very cheap. The 97 body style is a very common thing to do, so if you need a bumper Id go with that one since it would be the time to do it. Either bumper you go with you'll need the headlights for. The 95-96 headlights can be had for under 100 bucks for the pair, the 97-99 ones will likely run you 100-150 bucks for the set. The 97 body looks 1000x better than the 95-96 one, and just think you start off with a 95 ECU . The 95-99's are the ones most likely to crankwalk, however 6bolt motors are very cheap, generally can be had for under 1000 bucks, and they are stronger to begin with and generally come with turbo's and manifolds at the same time. You could always sell off the 7bolt that is in there and likely make 600-700 bucks with ease selling it on ebay or some similar place as a longblock. The 6bolt motor has a higher flowing head, intake manifold, and throttle body as well. In addtion if the turbo comes with it you'd have a 14b instead of a dinky T25. Again people dont quite understand that crankwalk isnt all that bad. When I see honda people who'd drop 3000 dollars on a f*cking B18C only to be barely faster than I was stock, then talk about crankwalk on 2g's it makes my blood boil.

Personally its up to you, 2500 is alot in my opinion too for a body damaged GST. Id try talking them down a good bit. Also realize that you'll soon want a GSX if you own one as youll make enough power to spin tires any trip you make.

EXACTLY. If taken care of DSMs are very reliable. The problem is you have all these dumbasses trying to buy these dirt cheap DSMs (typically 1g's) which are around 10 or more years old at this point, and generally were owned by people who couldnt have cared less about the car and changed oil every 7000miles and used Dino oil to boot. These cars take high maintenance, if done right from the start the cars typically will run like a dream, especially if the owner knows what he is doing.

Depends on the condition of the car really. Post the pics up in here and lets have at it. The West VA section is dead anyway, might as well get some talk going.

Not to stick my nose in a thread that I cant contribute to but FWIW penzoil isnt my first choice of oil for anything that I intend to rely on very long (quakerstate either).

Not that my opinion means squatt but this is one of many penzoil engines Ive worked on and they all looked like this upon tear down (I just happened to snap a few pics of this one)...\/

The above pic is from a one owner 160k mile 1996 Chevy 4wd turck with a 350 (5.7 for you metric ppl) that had penzoil since it was new. Owner changed the oil at 3-4k miles (he had reciepts for the oil changes) and the truck was just a daily driver. I got the truck due to low/no oil pressure which was caused by sludge blocking the oil pump pick up. Quaker state engines that Ive seen looked exactly the same as above.

For normally aspirated engines Ive used Castrol GTX and never had an oil related engine failure yet. My turbo stuff gets Mobile 1 synth exclusively.

My O2 FWIW
