I've never really understood why there's so much of a difference between one person on a bike racing from a roll and another person. Launching takes a great deal of skill, but when you're already in motion all you need to do is give it throttle and make clean precise shifts. In all honesty, there's not that much skill involved in racing from a roll in a straight line. Did he position his weight and tuck down?

Don't take this the wrong way... I don't care if the dude wins or loses, but I wouldn't think it would be that close. I realize you have instant torque in the M3 but that particular motorcycle should still be leaps and bounds faster, even from a relatively high speed roll. It's not a motorcycle vs. car debate for me. Congrats I guess!?!

BTW, one of my buddies was laying down 5.6's and 5.7's on a bad night at the track. Granted, it's a bit of a bigger bike, but that must be intense. I've done a bit of dragging on bikes, but I won't put my own on that type of track. Mine is set up to take turns, not so much go fast in a straight line.

I agree with what you are saying. Run from a dig and your 1/4 mile time can be compared. Run from a roll and time goes out the window and trap speed comes into play. Just for instance, and I'm just picking two cars no hidden agenda here A mustang and a supra. At the track the mustang runs 10.50 at 118 and supra runs 11.80 at 135. At the track the mustang wins obviously but from a roll, totally different story. Supra would put bus lengths on the mustang.

I wish there were more people willing to play across these lines as well. I find it hard to get a car to run me on my bike and a bike to run me in my car. Basically for me it is all in good fun. I like to put my foot in it (or roll thr throttle back) win or lose makes no difference to me

Bah, who cares if it rains? It's only bad riding in the rain if you start the ride when it's raining. I just hate cleaning the bike up after riding it in the rain because I don't have a hugger and my swingarm gets mucky. I've gone so far as to take the fairings all the way off of the bike to clean underneath them after riding in the rain!

It'll be fun. I'm expecting between 10-20 people going so far. You should come! Mango's is at Smith Mountain Lake.

I'm hoping we all get together before 1PM.. I'm still waiting on confirmation on that. You can meet me somewhere if you want to. It's just going to be a moderately casual ride though, so don't feel like you have to suit up if you don't want to. I don't like getting caught in the rain (if it does rain) with leathers on.
