I ran the greddy and HKS BOV before.

The greddy gave me surge but the HKS did not. Plus the HKS sounded better.

You need to make sure the inside bore is very clean, I actually needed to run a flap wheel through to sorta polish one before it would work well. From there it's just a matter of adding/subtracting washers to get it venting when you want.
But to answer your question, compressor surge is not going to destroy your turbo.

Appreciate all the comments. Ive been looking at purchasing the HKS SSQ for a while now but just havent got around to doing it. Im kind of tired of hearing the same noise everytime i shift so ive been wanting something else. If you all know anyone wanting a TurboXS BOV holler at me. Even though the surge noise does sound pretty mean, id rather replace the BOV then the turbo like dude said.

What all was done to your subie? Pics if you got them. Also Heiss...i asked you about your tranny with your WRX on another forum a while back and you never answered it. Im maybe thinking about going with the 18g, how did your tranny feel at about 300whp? Im going with a bigger turbo, injectors and fuel pump with a conservative tune, but im really only worried about the tranny.

Save for a tranny upgrade, then you don't have to worry. Never mod to the next weak point and hope it holds. Research more on the power limits of the stocker and if it's around where you goals are, just assume it's necessary.
