IIRC the idea started at VIR in '01(?) during a SpeedtrialUSA weekend. There were so many ITR's present (at least 20) that someone said "we should do our own track event for just these cars" and the rest is history.

I instructed at the BeaveRun PA one in '03. That was a really fun weekend.
