NASA-X question
I emailed tech@nasaracing.net yesterday. I'll wait another day or two for a response before I give Jon Felton a try.
Richard does some awesome work on lots of stuff. Next time you're over there, ask him to show you the Rolex GT Porsche 997 he's responsible for the care & feeding of... it's gorgeous.
Back on topic, to the OP, I'm getting an official clarification on this question from the national office. Feel free to email anytime.

OOPS, NASA vs. SCCA... foot in mouth that time. You know what I meant though....
Either way, Rules is Rules and you have to get with the sanctionnig body to get any kind of real answer...
BTW: I thought NASA handled the space shuttle?

Agreed re: rules, which is why the OP has been told exactly who to talk to, and how to talk to 'em, above.
One NASA launches space shuttles, the other NASA launches racing careers.

Well he could email someone at the SCCA but since it's a question about NASA rules, he more than likely won't get an answer.
The OP may want to email this question to NASA's regional autocross director... Jon Felton, nasa-x at get-fast.net
or
NASA's national autocross director and the guy who co-wrote the very rules he questions... Jon Felton, nasa-x at get-fast.net
That guy posts here sometimes too!
