Default NASA-X question

I was just reading the 2008 Classification PDF (http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/n...-X_Classes.pdf) and I have a question:

25) Water injection system +6 (An alcohol-water mixture is permitted, but the driver must
notify the appropriate Event Director that it is being used.)

26) Fuel: Any grade of commercially available unmodified gasoline or diesel--all octane levels
of retail available race gas are permitted. No “home brewed” methanol/ethanol/alcohol
mixtures are permitted. Methanol injection systems are illegal. Fuel additives are prohibited.
Why is alcohol/water injection allowed but not meth injection?

Re: NASA-X question

Meth will rot your teeth out and eventually ruin your life. Don't get started on that stuff. It's really hard to get off once you've started.

JUST SAY NO to drugs of any kind...

Oh, you meant methanol? My bad...

my guess would be that it's a hazard that NASA's insurance won't cover if there is an incident

Actually the best way to get an answer to this is to email someone at the SCCA. They should have email addresses on the web. Its hard to say why they make these decisions.

Well he could email someone at the SCCA but since it's a question about NASA rules, he more than likely won't get an answer.

The OP may want to email this question to NASA's regional autocross director... Jon Felton, nasa-x at get-fast.net

or

NASA's national autocross director and the guy who co-wrote the very rules he questions... Jon Felton, nasa-x at get-fast.net

That guy posts here sometimes too!

I believe it had to do with methanol if it lights on fire, you cannot see it burning. So you would see someone flailing around, but not necessarily they were on fire if methanol got on them somehow and lit them on fire.

Water obviously doesnt do this..

Come on Jon, explain for reals...yo...lol

I emailed tech@nasaracing.net yesterday. I'll wait another day or two for a response before I give Jon Felton a try.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm currently injecting a Methanol/Water mix and would need to retune if I have to switch to Alcohol/Water for the AutoX events.

I'd love to, but the only "official" communication about rules questions must take place via email so both parties have a private written record. Anything posted in a forum would be unofficial.
