NASA Autocross @ Langley, May 25
Definitely, we need to make that a permanent work assignment... since I seem to either bring my camera and have no time, or not bring my camera and have time.
3rd Autocross for me, and 2nd place novice every time so far! Should be happy, I guess, sure was the first time! But no matter how I improve, there's ALWAYS someone faster. And in a Corrado, to boot, lol... Oh well, incentive to keep improving, right?

Hey, you did really damned good- shoot, if we'd have been PAXed, you'd have beat me.

But I enjoyed myself. You did good too! Pretty aggressive out there. I worked station 1 with your wife. Glad to see it's a joint effort.
Hey guys, was my first time too, driving the Firebird with the horrible flame paint job. I really underestimated how bad my tires were. My car was barely turning in the corners and was plowing really badly. I'm putting new tires on though which should make a huge difference over the 5 year old Eagle GT's I was running. Really got my butt waxed IMO, but there's an easy way to fix that, more seat time and more money! (new tires to start)
I'm going with a 275/40-17 Kuhmo MX's.

LOL I guess Langley was a learning experience for everyone. I found with the new springs and the alignment I put on the car the passenger front tire doesn't like the ABS wire. Unfortunately I didn't find out until I was doing 80+ down the front straight. Now all I need to do is get rid of the 4.10s and Detroit Locker if I continue to do this in this car.
Thanks! I've been autoxing before in my other cars - mainly 240sx's. But I wanted to test my daily driver out there to see how it does at it's limits. So far I learned that it understeers horribly! Ahhh more money into parts! My best time was my second to last run. Wish I could've gone at it a little more. But I think I did good; not a single cone added to any runs. :
- Increase front tire pressure
- decrease rear tire pressure
- Add weight to rear of car
- remove weight from front of car
- Increase negative camber both front and rear
- Stiffen rear anti-sway bar (stiffer bushings don't cost a lot)
- More front toe out
- reduce rear toe in
Now I'm hooked on autocross and selling off stuff to buy a set of tires for the next event. IMO its more fun than drag racing and every part of the car requires equal attention for it to work well. Neglecting any one part can have a very bad effect. So, definitely a learning process so I'm writing the first race off to experience. I won't feel embarrassed about my times until I stop getting faster (which hopefully will be never).
