What things are generally covered in a tune-up?
I know this is a rather novice question, but I'm not sure exactly what parts are generally replaced/serviced in a tune-up. My car is supposed to get mid to high 30's miles per gallon and it's more like high 20's-low 30's, so I think it needs some servicing. I've heard spark plugs/wires, distributor cap/rotor, fuel filter, what else?
The previous owner didn't stay on top of servicing the car very well, so I guess I'd like to do a tune-up just for peace of mind. Improving the gas mileage isn't really my main focus, per se...It's just what got me to thinking about it.

Flush the master and slave cylinder reservoirs if the fluid looks dirty and contaminated. Also check the condition of the coolant and tranny fluid. If you got a multi-meter, go ahead and see how the alternator is charging the battery too. Just cover all the basics so you know its starting fresh.
Do an oil change and use some Sea Foam. Put some in your Intake manifold, gas tank, and oil(before you change it). It helped a lot in my car.
