i got a 97 civic ex....if i got a stage 1 cam and cam gear would that be alright? what company should i get from skunk 2? AEM? price dont matter b/c im getttin them for christmas...im just wondering my motor is pretty much stock except for a header and intake...plug wires...blah blah blah you kno the basic stuff so yea if you could give me some advice on what to or not to get....and what stage to get?? thanks

Its a sohc right? Boost or bottle feed it, anything else is pointless.

 

if you upgrade to a skunk 2 cam your prolly gonna need a new valvetrain........

 

obviously puttin nitrous or turbo on it will make it faster...but i dont want to be obvious....i would really like a cam and gear and build up from there...i have to start somewhere you kno....and more impatient said that i needed a new valve train so, does tha tapply with any cam or jsut skunk2?? help me out thnakx

 

That applies for most cams, the specs for the cams usually tell you if you need an upgraded valve train.

i'm running a d16z6 w/a 10 lb flywheel, zex 59300 cam/JG valvetrain, and normal bolt ons and i've pulled a couple b16 hatches motor to motor. with just a 55 shot most swapped hondas dont even have a chance...D series trannys suck ass which is why im going to B series.

my suggestion as far as cams go would be the zex 105300 with upgraded valvesprings/retainers of your choice. whatever cam gear you get doesnt really matter, i would just get a 5 bolt gear rather than the 3 bolt style like the AEM one.

 

whats the difference between a 3 bolt AEM cam gear and a 5 bolt skunk2?

 

Some ppl complained about AEM 3 bolt slipping but AEM has a new 5 bolt cam gear.
