best thing to do is to check the engine code and go from there

well if the check engine light is one, the motors is in limp mode so its going to be running rich and will not engage vtec, once you figure out what the code is, fix it, reset the ecu. then vtec should be back. someone correct me if im wrong but this is what i have heard

Not all CEL can cause the ECU to go on "limp mode". However, I do agree to check the code first and fix the problem.

If VTEC just stopped working period, start checking simple itemss like OIL LEVEL. No oil, No VTEC.....

There are several code that will cause the ECU not to engage VTEC. Pull the codes and get back to us. Also what kind of car? We can also help you pull the codes if we have a little more info.

Check all the connections for VTEC (especially if vehicle had to have vtec wired), pull the whole solenoid off and check for filth and contaminates that may cause a blockage in oil pressure going to the solenoid. Oil level is also a good place to start, if it is to low you won't have vtec.

Post up what you have checked/done and hopefully we can help more.
