Cool turbo civic smoking

Ok i was drivig my car yesterday and felt a POP. It sounded like a common backfire. All of the sudden it started smoking. Smoked smelled and looked like oil. Checked out some things and there is oil leaking from where the downpipe bolts to the turbo.

Is my turbo shot? If so how much does a rebuild cost on a turbonetics T3/T4?

edit: also, there is a bit of shaft play that wasn't there before.

Well if you know for sure the oil is coming from the turbo , then yeah . Maybe time for a rebuild.

Rebuild cost runs from 350-500. Depending on what condition the turbo is in. I would send it back to turbonetics to get it rebuild. Plus its looks brand new when you get it back. I have heard good things from http://www.gpopshop.com/rebuilding.html. And there turn around time is pretty quick. I have never used them. 2 of my friends agree that the work is Top notch.

Cool Re: turbo civic smoking

Well every other function of the motor is fine so i think that it is the turbo. I even pulled the plugs to check for oil, incase it was coming from the piston rings or valve guides, and they were clean. Also there is a bit of oil on the compressor side also. So it looks like i am going to go ahead and rebuild the turbo.

May want to do a compression test.

Like CivicGsr94eg8 said, if it sounds like a WRX then it could be your motor.

I just had a turbo rebuilt by blaastperformance. It was around 200 bucks shipped both ways. Probably cheaper for you, they gave me fittings and what not.

Check my review in vender section.

Na. But it does have an open downpipe rite now so it would be hard to tell. But i have been running an open downpipe for a while now and it still sounds the same.

LOL. When I blew my motor I was open downpipe aswell.

This pop sounds a little crucial though. You sure you didn't hit anything?
