Default timing belt issue

i just recently rebuilt my motor, everything was running fine. Now my timing belt is loose...well it goes threw phases. when number 1 is at TDC its tight as shit then turn the crank about 1/4 turn or 1/2 turn and its super loose. i bet if you had a straight edge and ruler it would push in about 1 to 1 1/2 inchs. on the side oposite of the tensioner Then when i turn the crank another 1/4 turn seems like it goes super tight again.when i completed the build it was fine was a lil loose but nothing too bad, it has gotten worse and im scared to start it now..anyone have any idea..i want to say the tensioner is broke or is about to break and not holding its weight but curious if anyone else has had this same problem and what they did to correct it. o yeah motor is a jdm b18c in a 92 hatch..thanks for your time

Check for a bent pulley? Definitely don't start it, no.. Find out what's wrong with it and fix it before running the engine..

99% sure you installed the tensioner backwards/180* out. Look at the placement of the spring tab on the tensioner, they should be switched.

Look at this image compared to what you have setup;

IIRC there hole on the right of the tensioner (looking at front) acts as a pivot.

randomtask...dude thats nice, i appreciate it its always good to have a diagram to look at...i put the side on oposite from the tensioner on first "exhaust cam gear" then put the side with the tensioner "intake cam gear" did the whole 3 teeth thing and torque down..i want to say it was either 40 or 50 ft/lbs cant remember right now. i have took it off and put it on about 10 times and its still the same..tight at first then loose again..i will check the pullys like the above stated. Also there is another post by calvinthlim or something like that with a video, my belt is doing the exact same thing
