thermostat wont let air heat up ?
so i just bought a 2002 mazda protege 5 and when i turn on the heat it keeps blowing cold air for a while but the engine is warmed up to normal working temperature. could the thermostat still be bad ? but when the heat does come on its barely warm. could the temperature control unit be bad or is the thermostat bad ?
p.s. the control units are known to go bad on these cars but if the car is warmed up shouldnt it blow out hot air ?

Re: thermostat wont let air heat up ?
Normally if the t-stat is stuck open the operating temp will be cooler than normal which explains the air only being lukewarm. If the op temp is for sure where it usually is then I would look into the heater control issue since it's pretty common on that car. If you can find the mixer valve and manually move it that will tell you your issue right there. Not sure how hard it is to get to on your car though.
