temp problems

Default temp problems

Okay after i drive my car for like 20 minutes my temp guage starts goin to hot then back to cold and as soon as i stop it gets hot but when i hit the gas it go back to normal, while it is doing this it kicks my idle up to 1100 and my car starts backfiring when i press the gas and when i release it, someone help please. Its boosted by the way if that helps figure out the problem

Coolant temp sensor. It can make the car run really wacky because the ECU changes fuel according to coolant temp; it has to do with the cold idle stuff.. Check that out, it's a cheap part to replace if that's all it is..

are you talking about the one with one wire that goes into the block or the sensor beside the thermostat

so yeah i changed the temp sending unit sensor and now my dash only reads hot but sometimes will go down but the cars is not overheating does this sound like my thermostats messed up or my cooling temp sensor?

If the car's not overheating, the thermostat might not be opening all the way. They often don't fail all the way, only part of the way. I had a car in high school that would run hot a lot of the time, but behaved totally fine other than that. Turns out the Tstat was stuck.
