hmm i wonder if you could use a helicoil insert. I've done helicoil inserts in my head for the exhaust studs.

 

i searched on HT and there were mixed reviews about it. some people said it worked flawlessly but some said it just made their block more messed up.

people recommend the timesert kit but that costs soo much.

 

yea id try and helicoil it or have someone who knows how to do it right do it. go ask some machine shops how much they'd charge

 

i know theres also mobile machine shops. You may want to see if you can find 1 of those and hit them up and have them do a timesert or see what they suggest.

 

helicoils aren't hard to do. you just have to take your time and be patient. If you go crooked with the bit you're fucked.

 

how would i go about finding a mobile machine shop.

i dont know if i'd trust myself drilling the hole. i guess i'll call around to some machine shops tomorrow. this is making me want to part out the whole damn engine, everything possible has gone wrong with this swap.

thats just something i found real fast. just look up machine shops in the yellow pages and some will say if they are mobile or not.

 

Did you pick the right one? I know some will be shorter than others.

My friend had this problem with his b20vtec because he used b16a headstuds(arp) and they were too short.

 

yeah, the guy i bought them from said he ordered them for a GSR. and i don't know why all the bolts would work except for that one.


and would someone like that mobile machine service know how to use helicoil?

 

i dont recommend a helicoil for head bolts. a time sert is the only way to go and have it work correctly. you think they are expensive? see how much it costs to put every one of them in a northstar block.
