I wonder if they are talking about using some sort of a deckplate or leaving it open. Never heard that terninology used either.

O-ringed means you actually have a thin ring of copper wire around the top of each cylinder. It helps with sealing the block, head gasket, and head. Stepping the deck means that each cylinder is raised slightly, again to tighten the seal between the three.

Now that you describe that, I have heard of it. The headgasket will go around the raised portion, like you said, for better seal.

Most sleeving companies do one or the other, and in many cases do both. If you motor is gonna blow, its gonna blow. You speak of a headgasket like it is a fuse in a stereo. It blows to keep damage from going any further. A headgasket's purpose is not to blow when something is wrong and protect the engine, it is to seal the head to the block. Without it, the head and block, which are made of somewhat hard material, would not seal up very well, and have a hard time holding pressure.

For instance, Golden Eagle steps all blocks, and gives the option of an o-ring.

not sure but talk to derek im pretty sure he dont use ringed block.... u can jsut get knifed edge head gasket will work better... but when u are pushing 500whp out of motor i would rather have the ehad gasket go every other month then have the side the block blow
