Shop for alignment hone - cam journals
Any know of a good shop to do alignment hone of cam journals for a b16 head. Im guessing thats what you call it at least. I got a head and it has no cam caps. Once i find some i need to get the alignment done.
Just basically asking for advice of what shops can perform this and a rough price.

Re: Shop for alignment hone - cam journals
I guess no one has ever told you to NEVER buy a head without cam caps?
There are various things that can be done, but the safety margin is very small in order to stay within the tolerance specs of the cam journal diameter. Grinding the mating surface of the cam caps and then align boring is sometimes done, but all of that stuff makes me queasy given the tolerances on most import heads because you're slightly changing the vertical position of the cam centerline. Once you change the orientation of the cam centerline within the head, then you have to worry about valve lift (mostly piston clearance), valve to cam alignment, small changes in cam timing, etc..
I would never suggest that you got this done unless it was much cheaper than getting an intact stock head. Just realize that you're taking a risk here, and your results may vary..
Some people never have problems, others snap cams. Others have accelerated wear because the tolerance isn't tight enough and the cam has harmonic oscillation problems in the journal bores.

I've took all that into consideration. Not sure on what im going to do yet. Was basically asking for opinions. I got a good deal on a us type r head, and was wondering what my options are. Thinking about just parting it out.
