Default Saturn SL2 1997 trani

My friend has a 97 saturn SL2 1.9 4cyl. automatic

from what he tells me when he is driving it is shifting hard between first and second. when he tries to pass someone it "delays" for a while after the gas is hit before it shifts. the trani has a 134,000. I know this is a lot of miles but I'm hoping that it's just a vacuum line. if you all could tell me what you think I would appreciate it. I'll drive it tomorrow once i'm not at work for a 24hr shift to get the feel of what is exactly going on.

as he has described it what do you all think?

no vacume lines to the tranny in 97, just wires. its very common to see low fluid level in auto trannies that are acting up so be sure to check that. i heard on most saturns that the tranny must come out the top with the motor so better hope its something simple

well that's a sucky deal for him if it's not something simple. I'll tell him to check that. he's probably never had the fluid changed or anything at all on it. I know it's got a lot of miles so.... but anyway thanks for the info.

He's had the car four 4 years, so i'm thinking that it wasn't going on before. or there's some serious issues there. The miles are a lot but i've seen a lot of the same car with more than 200k on them.
