Your asking for someone to tear down your entire block, swap pistons, and re-torque everything. do you atleast have a full gasket set? how about new rings are you prepared to pay for a job of this magnitude, its not just, I got the head off lets slap some new pistons in sorry to tell you. if theirs any scoring on the cylinder walls, just bring the short-block to a machine shop and get oversized pistons, enjoy your slightly higher displacement and well functioning car. otherwise expect the pain and suffering of a improper sealing combustion chamber

Theres a difference between a high tolerance, low horsepower [strike]truck[/strike] mustang motor and this fine piece of Japanese engineering

Actually on a lot of those motors, there are usually 2-4 bolts connected at the rear main seal that you can usually only access with the flyhweel/pressure plate off.

Wait, are you being serious?

yes im being serious. you must not have known me before i had my mustang.

If you seriously think you need to remove the tranny to take the oil pan off, i feel sorry for all the extra time you have spent on these cars just to do a oil pan.

lol, eddie i think he meant you cant remove the block with the trans attached to the car. not that you cant remove the oil pan w/o removing the tranny thatd be dumb.

ninja edit: can you install a honda motor and tranny at the same time? or do you have to set the engine in first then drop in the tranny.... didnt the early civics require the tranny to be pulled off before removing the block? i could be wrong, ive never owned one.

No, every car I've taken the pan off I've either needed to separate for the fact I was so far involved and it was easier to do it on an engine stand, bolts connected at the rear main, or a cross member was in the way.

What were you building that required you to change your pistons every other week? You still get full seasons out of full blown race motors. I'm just trying to envision that.

You can remove the block(engine to clarify) and leave the trans in the car, thats easy, and actually better especially on automatics, saves a mess. I mean, replacing this pistons w/o disconnecting the block from the trans.

I guess theoretically, you could do it but I wouldn't.

Tiki, No, you can put them both in at the same time, actually quite simple, just a little perseverance.

Either 2 things...
you didnt remove the little brackets and such to get to the bolts(since you talk about a crossmember in the way)
or you didnt have the right tools

Out of ALL the honda motors i have done i have never came across one that i had to seperate the tranny for the oil pan. I have done plenty setups and have for other people also, and still doing others.

Few years ago i had a turbo ef that didnt have a "safe" tune. It ran its ass off but would eventually break a ringland on the piston. I used to be a big honda guy, i had parts galore. Swaping out pistons was no big deal. Single cam parts were dime a dozen.

You sort of support my point; you were switching pistons out every other week. I don't think he wants to do the same, mind you, you were prob running your boost on the retard setting. Also, if I'm doing pistons, I'm getting it honed to help set the rings (yeah, the same ones you kept blowing )

No, VW's and GM shit is what I'm used to removing pans on, I've done plenty of honda swaps, just nothing where I needed to take the pan off. I just think of 2.8L v6's out of fiero's when I think of dropping the pan and how much of a pain that was, and yeah, I needed to remove the trans to get to oil pan bolts.

now you just proved "my point" that your not to sure on what your talking about. I said ring lands on the piston NOT the piston rings. Jesus keep up Joe
