take a voltage tester and test the wires. there should be two 12v wires one when the ign is on and one hot even when the car is off. The second 12v wire isn't hooked. this is the wire that keeps your setting even when the car is off.

aiight so basically ur radio works but doesnt save the stations or anything, just like they said up above, u got a red wire on the back of ur radio that one would be the ignition 12v, and then there would be a yellow wire which would be a constant 12v, if ur radio comes on when u turn the ignition on then ur yellow wire more than likely is hooked up to the same wire that the red one is hooked up to, so ull have to fix that, now if the radio stays on no matter what and u have to turn the radio off to save the battery well then vice versa.

what kind of car is it going in to? you may just have the 12V constant (yellow) & 12V ignition (red) backwards. i hope you're not hard wiring. you will need a volt meter to check your wires.

its goin to a i believe a nissan quest van....and i did have the red wire and the yellow wire hooked up seperatly and correct......the guy that actually did it had both the yellow and the red hooked to the same hot wire...AND the ignition wire.....but when I had sereated it.....power comes on but doesnt actually turn on the unit itself.....and the head unit sometimes flickers on and off while the red and the yellow wire is seperated

so basically u got a short somewhere, it was working fine when they were both hooked up to the ignition 12v right?(besides memory loss, it wasnt flickering or anything) so it more than likely ur constant 12v is shorting out, try to trace the wire far back as possible or see if the fuse is loose. If ur to lazy to do that shyt just run a wire from a constant 12v source then hook it up and see what happens. Or another reason why it might be doing that is cause ur radio is shytty.
