Default need advise on testing

ok, i got a misfire on cyl. #2 for my vw 2.oL and its not plugs, wires, or injector... i am gonna test the coil pack but i cant remember how? aahhh, can someone refresh my memory plz... also i heard that its a common problem for the coil to go out on these cars, is that true? Also, to add i threw codes for o2 senser and cat, but when i erased them and drove the car around they didnt set again. cyl. #2 isnt firing at all, its completely died... im just mentally exhausted from a million and one freakin things going on and if anyone can point me in the right direction i would greatly apriecate(sp) it
