+1 THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

what kind of oil filter are you running? the reason i ask is becuase some hold such a big volume of oil it will cause low oil pressure, i would never run anything other than a honda filter! and what is the size of your feed line goin to the head? and how low is low? when you say oil pressure is low, what are you using to measure this. also if you are running a thick oil(anything thicker than 10W-30) i have seen this influence oil pressure. does the motor cross-over?

how do you know you just dont need a tune and a valve adjustment?

i was using a fram oil filter i usually fun k&n filters but auto zone was out of them and being the holidays it wasnt open. so i bought another fram filter which was better than the first. the thing is that the oil pressure fluxuates (sp?) on cold start ups it runs all the way to near 100 psi after it warms up it rests at 25 and below. also i am using a mechanical oil pressure gauge tied into the back of the block. i am not sure of the diamater of the oil feed line to the head but its pretty big. bigger than a -6 an hose like golden eagles kit. i am running 5w30 valvoline motor oil and the motor cross over? i am assuming you are talking about vtec. i have not yet reved that high ive only got 3 miles on the motor so far. i may need a tune i plan on getting one but the valves were adjusted when the top end was assembled.

Whats oil pressure at when VTEC crosses over?

My b16 was at like 22psi at idle and it was low 90s when it first started up.

like jarrod said at idle you should be anywhere from 20-30 psi. and cold start your pressure will be pretty high because of the properties of the oil. My ls/vtec idled at 25psi, and when it crossed over(VTEC) it was at 75/80 psi. From the sound of it i would say break the motor in unless the top end just sounds so horrible. I would recomend taking the valve cover back off and making sure none of the rocker arm nuts are loose if its making that much noise. BUt break the motor in and go get it tuned(i can never stress that enough). I mean the setup sounds pretty stock from your explanation of the motor its self, so it should run good enough to get it broke in and then you can go from there.

i am repacing the oil pump now. taking a smoke break. the pressure would be at 25 or below but usually rested below 10 psi. its only got 3 miles on it now i did have a ls in the car before and oil pressure was usuall around 30 to 40 so i am assuming thats normal. so thats what i want. also i did pull the valve cover off and the lifters do need to be tweaked somemore. ill update when i am finished.
