Yes, you need an air filter.
They suck to tune. Plenum volume for vacuum reference becomes a big issue.
The powerband is more peaky because you lose any intake plenum resonance.
Heatsoak is an issue too because you have to draw air from the engine bay. That is, unless you get a plenum box and duct the air from somewhere else. Then you lose the cool "hey look at me" aspects of ITBs because you can't see them anymore.

Well I wouldnt use them on a daily driver. I dont have a partial throttle, only accelerate and decelerate.
Yea I went with individual filters to try to keep the look. Although it is a shame to cover up the carbon fiber air horns.
