my civic is pinging..when i go up a hill my car pings like in 4th and fifth what can this be..

what grade fuel are you using??? have you advanced your timing? i would try a tankful of 93 octane gasoline and see how it does. when was the last time you had a tuneup? im just trying to get a little more info on the situation so that i may properly diagnose your problem. that pinging noise that you are hearing is called "detonation" that can be caused from poor fuel to hot running engine to too much timing advance. id be happy to take a look at it for you if youd like. you can call my cell at 567-4666 im mike
