Default hondata question

what's the difference with the different models of hondata, and what would be the best one for tuning a '00 prelude with light mods and planning to build up the top end?

The S100 is a copyright key, the same as a serial/parallel/USB dongle for expensive computer software.
The S200 is also a copyright key, and also allows a few basic RPM setpoints to be set by the user without using the software.
The S300 is USB programmable.

For most applications the S100 is fine, they're all the same once the tuning is done.

agreed.
Now, the S100 is meant for you to be the cheap option if you intend on having someone else tune your car and forget about it. It offers the user no other features besides having a tunable car. $195

The s200 offers more user options/controls. you can tune yourself (providing you buy the programmer and/or emulator) and you can datalog when you wish. $295 retailplus any options you want (full system is just over 1000)

The s300 is the best of Hondata's technology. It has all the above features only you need no extra programmer or emulator, it allows livetime viewing of your tables, launch control, and many other user do-able options. $595 retail

Having recently tuned a couple cars, i got to directly compare the s200 and the s300. I love the s300, i've been running the s200 on my car for years, but the s300 has awesome features.

For your application, i reccomend the s100 or s300 if you plan on having someone tune for you. the 100 is cheaper, but the 300 has more tuning features and has new safety features (such as an auto tune to keep a certain A/F).

One last thing, you need to buy an obd1 ecu (any will work, p72, p28, p07 as long as its a manual OBD1 B or D series rectangle ecu. Prelude ecus will not work) and pay for chipping which is usually $75

Let me know when you make up your mind and i can order you one.

As a side note, pretty much all you pay for when you buy Hondata products is the software. I estimate the S100 board as around $15 to make in small quantities, much less in larger.. That other $180 you pay is for software costs, just like buying a copy of Windows. That's why you need a copyright key like the S100. The S300 is a bit more impressive, but still pretty basic from a technology standpoint. I was developing something almost exactly the same as the S300 (USB programmable) but for the freeware tuning software like Crome, but I dropped the project when the S300 came out because that market niche was suddenly filled. I still think about starting that back up because of the sudden popularity of Crome, but I don't have the time. Maybe this summer though..

so you are basically saying that there is no way to tune an obd0 or an OBD2 ecu because i was wanting to boost my 90 da teg. i would have to flip the whole car over to OBD1?
