The Hondata setup also uses the CN2 connector, the Hondata setup works primarily by polling the external box when the ECU starts up. If the box isn't there, you get a CEL and the ECU doesn't work. So the Hondata box is mostly a copyright key. The bulk of the program is still in the chip that goes into the socket, Hondata was just clever to keep the software from getting pirated as easily. The only differences between socketing for Hondata and socketing for something else is the CN2 connector and the half/full duplex communication jumper that I don't remember the location of.
