Also, make sure you are running a 50/50 to 25/75 (green) coolant/water mix, don't use that orange shit.

It shouldnt even be sitting at that range, it should be below 190.. this is my little brothers car and cant afford to have his car to blow the motor.. im gonna check the sending unit in about 20 minutes when a bay opens up.

Adam that orange "shit" is Dexcool developed by GM and spec'd to last 5 years of 150k. While I'd never let it go that long, it is a superior coolant. I drain/re-fill mine annually.

You have a GM, maybe it's good for your car, but for the rest of the world, that ORANGE SHIT is BAD NEWS, do some research.

I have heard that if subjected to air in the system it can corrode/gum up faster, but if properly maintained it's great.

FWIW you cannot mix the two types of coolants.

When I first put the 302 in my truck, I thought I would be fancy and run that dexcool shit, my truck kept boiling over and there was nastiness floating around in my cooling system, thats when I did some research and posted on a few forums and found out that dexcool is bad.

On a side note, I used Engine Ice in my motorcycle and I couldnt keep it below 130 degrees, then I switched back to regular ole green coolant and water and everything resumed normal operation.

Getting to the point, green coolant and water > all.

I use texaco green coolant, then pour half of it into an empty one and mix it that way.
