wtf does sohc or dohc have to do with simple engine diagnosis?? fucks sake man, ALL engines have the same basic working order, especially cooling (minus aircooled vws) why would you assume you could trouble shoot a twin cam engine any better?

The T-stat only controls flow to the radiator, not the heater core. So if the car is overheating the problem could be the thermostat, but that wouldn't explain the heater core not putting out any heat. Well, unless the coolant is very low or there is a pocket of air trapped in the heater core. If it was never low on coolant the problem is most likely a complete water pump failure (as opposed to the more common seal or bearing failures).

my first thought, though it COULD be a thermostat. check the vent valve on top of the radiator. if the seal is cracked, itll let the coolant boil off to the atmosphere....and then you start overheating, and lose interior heat.

thanks for the tips!!!!!!
Not even because its the cheapest, its generally the most common thing to go wrong. If you still have overheating issues with no thermostat, then you start checking in order.
Obviously if theres any noticeable leaks, then that'd be your culprit. As well make sure you have a filled radiator to begin with. The internal and external condition of the radiator makes a huge condition as well.
If the inside has thick gunk inside, almost a brownish color, flush the radiator good. If there are any missing or bent fins or the radiator is rusted completely.
These are all things that can cause your engine to overheat.
