Factory ECU tuning
My car runs rich and acceleration isn't as smooth as I'd like. Many mention to "just get it tuned".
Now before the flaming begins I admit my ignorance to this subject. Please just bear with me.
The engine is stock and so is the ECU. I didn't think you could "tune" a factory ecu but I don't know much about this. Is there anyone I can take this to locally that may be able to help out? Can my factory ecu be tuned or will I need a standalone or piggyback. The engine is from a mid-90's Toyota.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Factory ECU tuning
Gotta get the ECU chipped.
Look up which ECU you have, and see if it's socketable.
You may have to get a different, stock Toyota ECU to be chipped.
Then if you are OBD0 or OBD1, determines what software is needed to tune it, thus who could/would tune it.
I don't know a whole lot about Toyota, tuning wise, as I've only tuned Honda's, Nissan's, and Saturn's.

Apexi AFC might do what you need but it must be applicable to your engine and maybe chassis type.
Now is this some top secret development motor that you signed an agreement with Toyota corp to not divulge the info or do you want to tell us what it is?

Re: Factory ECU tuning
Have you checked the codes?
IDK of any Toyotas that are easily "chipped". Toyota goes through a lot of effort to keep it's ECU tightly encrypted.
If it's completely stock, I really doubt you "need" a tune.

Re: Factory ECU tuning
Yeah I may have figured it out.
Ran the codes and its all clear. I think it has to do with the car not warming up. Has a big koyorad and electric fans are set to constantly run, temp gauge never rises and the car idles at 1200-1600. Maybe ecu is dumping more fuel because it thinks its cold?
Service manual says it would throw a code for a bad water temp sensor so it should be working fine (??). Going to try disconnecting the fans and see if it will move the temp gauge.
Oh sorry its an AE111 20v 4age
