Default Ecu help (honda content)

I was thinking about buying a b series swapped crx, the current owner said that the ecu needs to be chipped and tuned because the cel is on and VTEC isnt engaging.

Is he correct in saing "int needs to be chipped"? If not I was wondering what a good solution to this would be?

Thank you in advance.

You can get what they call a "OBD-0 PR3" it's a JDM B16 ecu. It is what a lot of EF owners do when they swap their OBD-0 EF's over to VTEC. Converting to OBD-1 would be a good choice though as well.

so far the car has been converted to obd1, and with the build quality that has gone into the rest of the car i highly doubt that it was one of those half assed swaps. I have another question. Does Vafc control vtec to the point where i could install it and just use that?

+1. Figure out what the original problem is before you start adding periphials to the ecu.

Personally I don't trust VAFCs. I had the Apexi VAFC and one day it just shitted out on me in my hatch. But if you get one, be sure you get one that has a good reputation.

vafc wont make your car vtec i dont think..i know you can adjust the vtec settings...if its obd1 and everything is converted..jump the wires and give us the codes or look them up yourself

We still have no idea what ECU is in the car, or what the CELs are, or what B-series engine is in it. All those things are important to know. For example, if it's an LS engine, and the ECU is for a DOHC VTEC engine, you will get a knock sensor CEL, etc. We have no information other than it is a swap with an OBD1 ECU.
