if your vtec is set too low, youll have whats called vtec overlap. that kills performance, it doesnt enhance it.

im not 100% sure about this..but i believe overlap doesnt happen unless both intake and exhaust have vtec. and since the sohc motor only has it on the intake side...the overlap would be minimal than vs a b16.

if honda engineers tested billions of times where to create a vtec xover why would u want to change it. they obviously set it there for the safest most optimum performance. just my 2cents

yeah good idea. you're not gonna get that low end power that most people think you're getting when you lower the xover. all it is used for is to smooth out the xover thus creating more power under the curve. face it...you have 1.6 liters with high compression...you're never gonna have low end torque without any power adders.
