Metal head gasket usually isn't going to leak except under boost unless there is severe head warpage. Head will warp to hell way before block. If it gets too hot all it takes is once. If it's drinking a lot of coolant that could be a problem but probably not too likely if it's not streaming a solid cloud of white smoke it's probably not drinking enough coolant to cause an issue. On a 4G63 it will not mix coolant and oil when it blows a head gasket 99% of the time. On a 95-99 GSX the fan is electronically controlled by the ECU. The reason you hear the fan turn off last is because the spark turns off first but the rest of the ignition power is on a 10ish second delay. My guess is it's most likely electronic related. 99% of the time if you take it apart in working order and put it back together and it doesn't work, you put something back wrong. Check for disconnected wires or melted wires. Did any wires get cut in the process of changing O2 housings? Tell us more about the car.

my first thought was also something electrical. however, when i checked the coolant there was little to none in the radiator hose. it emits white smoke but not enough to get lost in lol. i know for a fact that the first o2 sensor wires were burnt on the turbo manifold and as a result frayed and sometimes touching each other. same with the alternator wires, i believe. they were dangling and touching, and thats what kept the car running after the turbo timer had run its course. also, the block is built, eagle rods, crower pistons, and arp headstuds. the head isn't, save for the cometic head gasket. what else do you need to know?

Melted alternator wiring would short out the car and not keep it running. If the O2 circuilt was shorted out it's possible you fried the ECU. I know for a fact a short circuit of the rear O2 circuit will fry the board. Are you running any type of engine management?

a friend of mine said it might be the ECU, but i wasn't sure. the 02 sensor i was referring to is the primary one that stretches from around the radiator hose, across the turbo manifold, and into the housing. the heat proof material/tube that covers the o2 wiring was pushed back somehow and the wires had a fight with a scalding hot manifold. no engine management, although the previous owner used dsmlink and an safc at one point.

Is DSMlink still in the car? I'd assume so. Is this car by any chance a black wingless car? If you're running DSMlink and the ECU gets reset you lose the tune, so if the car has big injectors and the chip isn't set to default to those settings it'll run like shit without reloading the tune. If you have a laptop I'd check that first since it sounds like you may have unhooked the battery if you were messing with the alternator wiring? Check and see if it has DSMlink, it is a harware piece in the ECU, a special chip and a cable. The software is only part of it. If it was tuned on DSMlink I'd bet it's still there.

I was thinking since he disconnected the battery he may have lost the tune but im not sure what all is done to the car. Beat me to it dave.

ps IF you want any CF 2G parts let me know

before the car was sold to me, the stock 440cc injectors were put back on the car and i believe dsmlink was removed as well. i'll have to check to make sure, but i'm pretty sure its gone cause the previous owner uses dsmlink to tune his gst., and he only had one. cable, software, and the ecu chip i'm assuming. the car is a dark green with the high rise wing, on bronze/gold rota te-37 knockoffs.

Wow, thats a pretty sad excuse for an ECU tuning solution if the tune is volatile with no backup. Remind me to never recommend DSMLink to anyone.

i'm putting all my cards into the ecu being fried at the moment, because i can't justify a blown headgasket and there's not too many places you could mess up bolting down an o2 housing. but mainly because after the heat proof shield was somehow pushed back to reveal the naked and heat damaged o2 sensor wiring, the 4 wires began to rub each other and spark. so....

anyone have a gsx ecu for sale?

I actually have/had a 95 gsx ecu sitting around here somewhere. Let me look around and if i can find it, you can have it since i have been out of the dsm game for awhile and pretty much staying out. I will let you know, but dont hold me to it because like i said it has been awhile, i will look tomorrow
