i have a 96 nissan maxima SE

sometimes when i start the car, it starts stutters, then shuts down.. i then have to start it, keep my foot on the gas to keep it running for a few seconds then the car will sit at idle without dying. but idle seems lower than usual. the engine has a new noise, sounds like a belt is slightly slipping. any help?

 

did u try a tune up? new fuel filter?

 

idle air valve maybe, other thing it may be is one of your accessories dragging, check and see if your ac compressor is turning. not just the outer part of the pulley but the center part. do you have a CEL or other issues? does it just do this at startup or does it run like crap all the time?

 

if it does it alot, id say its a maf problem....just based on my almost IDENTICAL issues with my car. COULD be going into limp mode. and it wont show a code for that, i dont believe, though im not sure on a maxima. unplug the maf when this shit happens, see if the car runs better.

 

my car's been randomly doing this for a while.. maybe once a month, it would start and die, then immediately start like nothing's wrong. but last week i had rough starts for about a day. and since this morning its perfectly fine again. i'll check the MAF
