hey guys, i was wondering if a tranny from a d15b7 motor will work with a d16y8?

Yes it will work, all D-series transmissions are interchangeable.
But the gearing on the B7 tranny is a bit taller than the Y8, so I wouldn't recommend doing it.

D15B7: 3.250 / 1.761 / 1.172 / 0.909 / 0.702
FD: 3.888/4.058 (hatch/sedan)

D16Y8: 3.250 / 1.909 / 1.250 / 0.909 / 0.702
FD: 4.250
