First of all, my Cat is separated from the exhaust due to rust and it makes noises when I get on it and when I hot bumps. so 2 days ago, I started to hear something. I just figured it was the exhaust....but it was a different noise. a couple days went by and tonight, I went to go start the car and it made the same noise and then pop....silence. But, I could hear something spinning. I looked under the hood, couldn't see shit because it was dark....reached my hand down to the starter (on the tranny) and it fell off in my hands! WTF!? So, I tried to see if the bolts just came out or the bolts busted. No....the bolts had nothing to do with it! It was the tab on the upper right part of the starter that the bolt goes through...it was busted in half! How in the fuck does that happen!? So, i call my girl down to the car, to see if I can hold the starter in place and her try to start it. It didn't work...made a loud grinding noise and shot out of my hands. I had the starter all the way in...or atleast I thought I did.

Any ideas?

Also....if it is just the starter. Will an LS starter fit in a GSR tranny? and if it does...will it have enough charge to start the engine?

This is my pregnant girlfriend and my only car....I really need to get this fixed. Any ideas or experiances would be much obliged!

 

weird, jus replace it and call it a day. dunno about the LS-GSR starter tho

 

How much do starters go for?

 

the thing I am scared about is that the teeth got chewed up and are fucking up the clutch,flywheel and the pressure plate. Maybe i am thinking into this too much...I will look at it tomorrow.

 

round $100, jus get a used one. I doubt your starter is messing up your clutch/flywhel/etc., take a second look at it tomorrow after some sleep.

lol, i shoulda said, youre probably just stressing it and overthinking it, a fresh look at it tomorrow would probably be better than at 1am.

by the way...the LS starter fits in a GSR tranny. got it fixed!
