Exactly, throwing that much money into an engine that is usually a budget choice just strikes me as odd.

Well, I wanted to build a beefy D series to see just how much she would hold, shame I never got to find out - was far too busy with other more important projects, customers, etc. I'll search HT, maybe he has some numbers on it, who knows.

Vitara pistons have proven to goto 400whp. and are $150. on stock bore. You got alot of money listed up there for a D series build..lol..Mannley rods??? damn thats some money man.
Yeah I'am not looking to run a high level boost, so what parts so I upgrade ?

Although I appreciate the need to do something different, I just can't get on board with that kind of D series project, I just have a different school of thought. I'm a believer that your starting point is every bit as important as your ending point, so a D series wouldn't naturally be my choice. It would be cool to see some numbers from the current owner though, just to see what throwing a lot of money at a D series can result in..

Usually its just the underdog status of the d series that makes it so intriguing. Thats what does it for me anyways. Mines taken out a number of b series turbo setups(nothing too crazy at all), but it gives ya a good feeling lol. I'll be sinking some cash into mine soon and will be shooting for 400.

Thanks for all the infomation, the car is just going to be more for show then anything but I would like to boost it just so it has something more under the hood then just a stocky. It's also a automatic, yeah it sucks but like I said the car isn't meant for speed just for looks. And yes this is going to be my first "boost building" car.

Matt hit the nail on the head. And just like you Fabrik, I was intrigued to see what the result would be, unfortunately, never got around to it.

The buyer sold it it would appear, I'll hook up with the one who bought it from me to see if I can track down the current owner and whatever dyno sheets are available. My curiosity is killing me once again... figures.

Matt has tuned Vitara pistoned D series no doubt, I have as well and it DOES work just fine. Also go with H beams now that I think about it (Eagles would be fine, just ensure your builder checks the big bore/crankshaft bore end of the connecting rods which should be done anyway for out of roundness), unless your builder doesnt mind notching.
