Vitara pistons have proven to goto 400whp. and are $150. on stock bore. You got alot of money listed up there for a D series build..lol..Mannley rods??? damn thats some money man.
Because unless you have fresh cross hatching on the cylinders still, going with a stock bore replacement and expecting rings to seat properly is simply ghetto.

Can a person boost just about anything? Yeah of course, I could boost a lawnmower.. implementation is key. And if you think my list for a D series is nuts, well, I guess I have had a nutty D series then:

Golden Eagle HD Sleeves to 77mm
CP Pistons w/ Swain coating 77mm
Knifed and polished crank
Pauter Rods

I could go on. I prefer proper, which in turn means more money I suppose. But then I think of it as this, especially if its a daily driver (which it doesnt sound like his is, perhaps he'll chime in), if he cant afford to do it right, he most likely cant afford to do it wrong either.

I could get 400whp out of stock pistons (note, pistons not the rods) and out of SRP pistons, but, doesnt mean I would want to do it. Silicon content alone would deter me.

If his goal is really low, just throw a 3mm HG on it with ARP head studs and call it a day, if you really want to ghettotize it all. Different strokes for different folks. Power from a D series is very possible, hell I would probably recommend a B16 swap first and then build it.

Wasn't looking to debate, I dont recall quoting anyone until now.. was just giving my preferences/opinions and well, we know the adage about that.

vitara pistons will work fine. The ones people run are made by an aftermarket company and they sell them in .5mm larger than stock diameters if so desired. Also if his goals are as low as he sais they are then why the hell run a 3mm headgasket and lower your static compression into almost the 7's? Running a headgasket that thick is good on a high compression b series and all when you are trying to make 400whp on pump gas reliably, but why for a 200-220whp d series that can run that power reliably on pump with stock compression.

Sarcasm.

Though depending upon what head he uses the compression ratio could still be in the 8's just fine Matt. Now if he is using an A6 head, well, thats a different story, no matter though, sarcasm just the same.

And I'm very aware of YCP and Nippon Racing, I figured the rest of my posts in the thread would indicate I wasn't ignorant.

CAN it be done, yes, I thought I stated this, though I would not do it - but that's me.

Not talking shit, just wondering.

Have you seriously put that much money into a D-Series?

Yes and didn't think you were talking shit bro. The reason was no more than, because I could. However, a fairly known maker of manifolds now has it, or did - never did see numbers from it so who knows.
