boost question
i got a 98 dc2 with an ls. it just broke 100,000 miles. my question is how much boost could it hold? would it be safe boostin on this or should i rebuild it? im just lookin for somethin to have a little fun with. all info is appreciated

Do a compression check to see how healthy your motor is. Also, never base a power goal on psi. Different size turbos put out different power at different pressure levels. Horsepower is what breaks motors, not psi. But as stated before, Ive seen LS motors take up to as much as 350 whp on stock internals, and even 400+ on forged internals and stock sleeves. It's all in the tune and tuner, and how you take care of the car.
If you're 100k+, I'd keep it around or under the 300 whp level (or even 250 for that matter, since you just looking to have a little fun), until you can do some forged pistons and rods. Then turn up di bloodclaaat boost! Good luck.

8 to 12 lbs safely on what? A little T25, or a big GT42R? Again. Set a power goal, not a psi goal.
To the OP, I would suggest a nice T3/T04 57 trim turbo. It spools fairly quick, and can handle 400+ whp easily with a good tune, that will give you a margin for more power whenever you rebuild and go forged internals, PNP head, etc. For now, if you looking for just a little road ripper to have fun with, keep it a the suggested power level. No need to add more stress to your stock block and blow your motor until you rebuild. With a 57 trim turbo (depending on what other parts you use on your setup), 12 psi "should" net you around 250 whp, and again, this is a subjective number depending on your setup, like how big your downpipe is, your exhaust, how high your intake air temps are, how efficient your intercooler is, etc.

thats alot of good info. it is actually a t3/t4 57 trim. 2 1/2 inch downpipe, 440 cc injectors, and im gonna need new piping and i.c. on a similar set u i seen a friend of mine put down 260 on 10 pounds. so i was hopin somewhere around there

Thats really good power on 10 psi with a LS!
Was his downpipe and exhaust 3"? Check out Treadstone Performance for an IC. They have really nice ones, and they have great fin density for keeping them intake temps down. Try to avoid them Ebay ones.
Throw in a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump also, just for peace of mind. Your setup will love it. And also, it is actually T04. T4 designates the divided exhaust turbine flange, T04 is a compressor housing. You'll often hear ppl just say T4 for compressors, thoh.
You have the T04B, E, R & S compressor housings. The B's and E's are usually .60 a/r housings, while the S cover starts at .70 a/r. Not too sure about the R comp. housing.Get that sucker boosted and post up some cool pics and vids!
