i was driving along the other day, listening to my music and all of a sudden my sub stops working. there was no weird sounds, and every once in a while the sub comes back on for a few seconds then turns back off. anyone know what could cause this?

bad ground
loose 12v power wire connection to the amp
loose remote switch wire to the amp
loose 12v power wire connection at the battery
bad remote wire connection
faulty amp

 

or, if your amp has overload protection it could just be shutting itself off momentarily to try and keep things from overheating. Had you had your subs runnin loud or goin for a while? Does your amp have a fan?

Your wiring inside the sub box may have come loose also..
If it's intermittant, it's usually a remote wire or ground problem. if it's a thermal problem, it will take more than a few seconds to shut off again because they build hysteresis into the thermal shutoff..

depending on the amp, it could play for 15 secs or so, then shutoff for 5, then play......cycles because its trying to maintain the heat. Post back and let us know if you were running them loud, or if they were running for a while, then we'll all be able to help u more

 

it could also be a bad coil on ur sub but check to see what ohms ur amp can handle if all else is ok

 

dude, first thing is check all the connections. then come back to these other possibilites

 

er, except checkin all the connections can be a pain in the ass. Not only would you have to check ground and power to the amp, but to the car, and, if he didn't install his amp, who knows where they put his ground on his frame. Where as posting to say how he was runnin his subs is a hell of a lot easier lol
