Advice on engine choice
Hey, I am either going to get a b18c1, or b16a2, and store it in my garage on a stand and build it up. What would be better for the money, and power? Probablly gonna start out with doing the rods, then possibly crank, camshafts, etc. Let me know guys.

Re: Advice on engine choice
either of them have lots of potential to make big power.....displacement is really the key factor....all motor or forced induction? what are the plans....

I am going to go with turbo, I want to beable to run 18psi all day. Which is why I am starting with bottom end. The thing is the b16a2 is so much more cheaper, but I need to know what you guys think. What are the week points on the a2?

Re: Advice on engine choice
you should be fine with stock cams. most aftermarket cams keep the intake valve open too long resulting in reversion and thermal runaway because the exhaust is at a much higher pressure in turbo cars. if you insist on getting cams make sure you go with a turbo cam, higher power is made by increasing lift instead of duration.
the biggest problem with turbo honda motors i see is their open deck block, the rigidity to run high boost isnt there and the cylinder will actually move enough to affect affect head gasket sealing over time. im not sure how turbo honda guys remedy this but its something you should look into.
also look into whether these engines have a method of keeping the pistons cool. high boost puts a lot of thermal stress on pistons, if the engines dont have oil squirters, i would look into have the pistons thermal and friction coated to relieve stress.
honda motors when compared to turbo motors are very delicate. so even when you have built everything with forged internals, head and main studs instead of bolts, a good tune is necessary. a few bad pings from a poor tune will destroy your motor.
good luck with your build!

if money is an object, you want to build a b16a. a short block can be had for very little, especially if the rods & pistons aren't included - which is the condition you probably want it in. you can take the money you've saved and apply it towards all the forged reciprocating parts to strengthen it.
plus, of all honda b-series, it has the closest to theoretically perfect rod/stroke ratio. for a street driven, boosted motor, i would think it could hold its own.
if you change your mind and decide to go all motor, or if you happen to find a killer deal on one, you'll want the extra displacement of a 1.8 or 2.0 liter block.

i like vtec..i dont knwo about everyone else on drag, but id go with a vtec motor b4 any non-vtec motor...c1>b1
hence get the c1 or the a2, shit even go for a c5 if money is no issue...and

The b16b has nearly perfect rod/stroke, but still the b16a has better rod/stroke than the B18c. But not enough to be a determining factor .
I would use the B18 if money is not that big an issue, if it is B16.
