Default '97 Civic 5 speed shudder from a stop (clutch)

What would cause my Civic to shudder when leaving from a stop? It's similar to a shudder I've felt in a car with a really strong twin disk clutch. When taking off from a stop, it shudders pretty bad when slipping the clutch out. It's worse when it's cold and all but goes away when it's warm.

Disclaimer, it's an old piece of shit but I bought it real cheap. It hasn't lived a pampered life.

Kim's Cooper does the same shit...only when it's a cold start and worse when it's cold or the AC/Heat is being run

I guess all 115hp are needed elsewhere

Bad clutch fade I would assume. It's like a car with badly faded brakes or warped rotors. Could be the flywheel needing to be turned causing irregular clutch disk mating.

The clutch could also be glazed over due to asshat driving, or someone not knowing what they were doing, I'm only assuming this because of statement about recently acquired.

If it's a clutch, I guess it's time for a motor swap. I'll swap a new engine in before I pay for a new clutch.

A oem clutch kit isn't but about $100-150 resurfacing the flywheel your looking at about $20-30. It's nothing to drop the trans and swap it, I can usually have it done in about 6 hrs at the most.

Unless you just want to because the motor is bad.

Usually a glazed disc or a heat checked friction surface. It can also be from a bearing problem or lack or proper lubrication during clutch engagement. I'm going to put my money on a cold clutch with a little glazing.
