has anyone ever replaced a whole steering rack in a s13? just trying to judge the level of difficulty.

 

the hardest part is lining everything back up. overall, very easy. just some tight spots under the dash.

remove tie rod ends from spindle
remove the 2 brackets that hold rack to chassis (4x17mm iirc from underneath)
remove the 14mm bolts that hold the steering column to the dash
remove 3 10mm bolts that hold the rubber/metal boot at the firewall (conects to steering rack)
loosen 12mm column/rack joint (make marks that way you can determine the ~ location when replacing it.
remove rack.
make dinner

 

from 1-10 in difficulty i would say 3-4 if you havnt done anything like this. make sure you get flare-nut wrenches or you will round off the flare nuts.

 

id say a 5 since hes on here asking how hard it is.
