Default 1996 ford mustang radio

Ive installed plenty of after market radios.... today i tried to install a radio in a 96 mustang i picked up a wire harness for 73-03 but only one harness would fit the one with the power... but the one for the speakers wouldnt fit is there anything special i have to do or a special part like an adapter?

Does it have the Mach460 system? If so, it needs a special adapter because of the built in amps. You can cut the plug and wire the speakers to run off the deck if you want.

or unplug the amp eliminator plug located in radio cavity mounted on support on pass. side ...then you can use regular ford harness (metra 1770)
