Default Title Question?

Back in December my parents decided to co-sign a loan with me for a new car. The car that I was driving (an 89' Volvo), we decided to donate to a foundation called Cars For Kids. My Dad got a tax write-off so I guss it was a legit charity. They came to our house to pick it up back in late December but yesterday we got a letter from the Maryland State Police saying that they had found an abandoned vehicle. They traced it back to us by the VIN number but my Dad doesn't even have the title anymore. I personally would love to have the car back but I don't what we can actually do seeing that we don't have the title. Any advice?
